What is the NATA Exam — and Is It Hard to Crack?
NATA has two parts: a cognitive skills test (logical reasoning, aesthetic sensitivity, general aptitude) and a drawing test (2D/3D composition, imagination, visualisation). Both are held in the same sitting.
You must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics — or a 10+3 diploma with Mathematics. Students appearing in their qualifying exam are also eligible to apply.
A score of 120/200 is generally considered competitive for most architecture colleges. Top institutions look for 155+. Your 12th board marks also carry significant weightage in the final merit list at many colleges.
NATA is typically conducted twice a year (two attempts per year). You can appear in both attempts and use your best score. The Council of Architecture announces the schedule each year — usually between April and July.

Does NATA Need Coaching — or Can You Prepare at Home?
We'll be straight with you: if you have a strong drawing background and a disciplined self-study plan, you might not need coaching for all sections. But the drawing section is where most home-prepared students fall short — not because they can't draw, but because no one is correcting their spatial and compositional errors. One month of structured coaching for drawing alone is worth more than three months of unsupervised practice.
- ✓You have been drawing seriously for 2+ years
- ✓Your Maths (Class 11–12 level) is solid
- ✓You can access and genuinely self-assess previous year NATA papers
- ✓You have a mentor — even an art teacher — who can review your drawings weekly
- ✓You're targeting a lower-cutoff college and have 4–6 months of prep time
- →You have little to no drawing background
- →You're preparing in under 3 months before the exam
- →You're targeting top architecture colleges (155+ score needed)
- →You've attempted NATA before and are not improving on drawing
- →You need help balancing NATA prep with Class 12 boards
Coaching doesn't substitute effort — it directs it. The biggest value of structured NATA coaching is getting your drawing sheets corrected regularly by someone who knows the exam pattern, and having mock tests that simulate actual time pressure. If you can replicate both of those at home, you may not need us. If you can't — a short structured programme will save you months of trial and error.
