What is the NDA exam — and what does it actually test?
The NDA (National Defence Academy) exam is conducted by UPSC twice a year. It has two parts: a written exam and a 5-day SSB interview. Both must be cleared to earn a commission in the Army, Navy, or Air Force. Most students underestimate the SSB — that's where preparation makes the real difference.

The written exam has two papers — Mathematics (300 marks) and General Ability Test (600 marks). GAT covers English, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, and Current Affairs. It is a qualifying exam; marks also count toward the final merit list.
SSB Interview
Services Selection Board — 5-day assessment
The SSB is a 5-day residential assessment at an SSB centre that tests officer-like qualities through psychological tests, group tasks, outdoor activities, and a personal interview. Clearing written exam is only the first step — SSB preparation is a separate, structured process.

Can I start NDA coaching after Class 10 — and do I actually need coaching?
Yes, you can start NDA preparation right after Class 10 — and doing so gives you the best chance of clearing NDA I or NDA II in Class 12. Coaching helps most students, but it is not the only path. Here is an honest breakdown.
NDA eligibility requires passing Class 12 (10+2), but there is no rule against starting preparation in Class 10 or 11. In fact, students who begin early cover the Maths and GAT syllabus more thoroughly, attempt mock SSBs multiple times, and carry significantly less pressure during Class 12 boards.
🎓 NDA after Class 10 — what the timeline looks like
Start coaching in Class 10 or early Class 11 → Complete Maths and GAT syllabus by end of Class 11 → Spend Class 12 on revision, mock tests, and SSB rounds → Attempt NDA I in April of Class 12 → Have NDA II in September as a second attempt — all before graduation. This is the ideal roadmap. Students who start in Class 12 can still clear NDA but have far less preparation time and no buffer attempt.

Students who clear NDA written in a short preparation window often struggle at SSB because personality development and mock rounds cannot be rushed. The recommended minimum for a complete NDA + SSB preparation is 6–12 months. If you have only 3 months, a crash course can target the written exam specifically.

Online students attend the same live sessions as offline students, taught by the same faculty, covering the same syllabus. Online coaching is available to students across Karnataka and India — including those in areas where our physical branches are not nearby.

They test very different things. JEE Advanced is considered harder in terms of pure academic depth — especially Physics and Chemistry at the level required. NDA Maths is Class 11–12 level and more manageable for most students. However, NDA has an additional dimension that JEE does not — the SSB interview, which assesses personality, leadership, and mental toughness over 5 days. A student strong in academics may clear NDA written easily but struggle at SSB. The two exams are not directly comparable — success in each requires a different kind of preparation.
